Mid-States Corridor Advances

Mid-States Corridor update: What Indiana Property Owners Need to Know

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) recently announced major progress in the Mid-States Corridor Project, a proposed north-south highway designed to connect State Road 66 near Rockport with Interstate 69. This project, which aims to improve safety, mobility, and economic growth in southern Indiana, continues to move toward its 2027 construction start date.

September 2025 Project Updates

  • Next Public Meeting: INDOT will present its Screening of Alternatives Report on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at Jasper Middle School. This meeting will give the public an opportunity to learn about potential routes, ask questions, and provide feedback.

  • Tier 2 Studies Underway: INDOT began Tier 2 environmental and design studies in 2024, focusing first on Dubois County. These studies will refine the specific roadway alignment and assess environmental impacts.

  • Right-of-Way and Surveys: Survey crews are actively working in Dubois County, following a court order granting INDOT access to private land after several property owners initially denied entry. These surveys will determine the land needed for construction.

  • Construction Timeline: INDOT anticipates final right-of-way approval and project design completion in 2027, with highway construction expected to follow shortly thereafter.

Impact on Homes, Businesses & Farmland

The Mid-States Corridor will affect farmland, forests, homes and businesses along the selected route. Many property owners are concerned about the government’s power of eminent domain, which allows land to be taken for public use, and how fairly their property will be valued.

These concerns are well-founded. For many property owners, the valuation process is complex, and government offers often undervalue the true worth of land and buildings -- especially when factoring in business operations, access changes or long-term impacts.
